Mission

The mission of our laboratory is to use green engineering to design next-generation materials that improve human health and the environment. By also specializing in understanding how bacteria interact with different chemistries and surfaces, we can design materials that kill bacteria, repel them, or encourage them to live. This is important because while some bacteria cause harmful infections, others play helpful roles in the body and the environment. Therefore, we make materials for an ever-changing world: from fouling resistant biomedical hydrogels to long-lasting membranes that produce clean water to fabrics that deliver probiotics and more! Our research integrates engineering, chemistry, and microbiology, fostering a collaborative environment. We are open to partnerships with academic groups, national laboratories, and industry partners so please reach out if you would like to work together to improve the materials that we use in our everyday lives.

Values

In this lab, people come first. Our lab is committed to maintaining a safe and inclusive environment for everyone, regardless of race, age, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical ability, or mental ability, religion, nationality, or socio-economic status.
